PREREQUISITES

This program requires .NET Framework 4.7.2 or higher to be installed on your system. You can download it from Microsoft's official page:

HOTKEYS

If the hotkeys aren't working in overlay or fullscreen applications (e.g. games) or applications started with administrator rights, restart Volume Hotkeys as administrator. Make sure to not bind multiple hotkeys to the same functions. Otherwise conflicts may occur.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

DISPLAY WINDOW (OSD OR 'ON-SCREEN DISPLAY')

The display window (OSD) is implemented solely in GDI/GDI+, no DirectX or other graphic APIs involved. In some cases the OSD won't show in overlay or fullscreen applications (e.g. games) due to Windows limitations. Occasionally this can be fixed by moving Volume Hotkeys to the system tray or restarting Volume Hotkeys as administrator. If this doesn't help, try running the fullscreen application without administrator rights and/or make sure to run it in windowed, fullscreen windowed, borderless fullscreen or borderless windowed mode.

Drawing the display window can be troublesome (e.g. laggy) on low-performance systems. In case of poor drawing performance, tweak some of OSD's settings, such as: width, height, trackbar height, icon size, number of application volumes drawn, hide icons, hide volume values, disable application volumes, disable sound output device, in "Clickable volume trackbar and icon(s)" check "For trackbar: only change volume on mouse released". Also try disabling the "Display volume value in tray icon" in the "Other" tab. Additionally, there is a hidden deprecated option to use high performance rendering on low performance systems. To activate it, open settings.data in the program's root folder with a text editor (if the file doesn't exist, open the program, click "Save and apply" and close it) and find "OSDVCkUseHighPerformance", then change its value after the colon to "true" (without quotes), save the changes and restart the program.

If application volumes are shown in the OSD, a click on the application icon will mute or unmute it. Note, that some application icons can't be shown in the OSD if this program isn't run as administrator. This is a Windows limitation.

BLURRY GUI / INCORRECTLY SCALED GUI / HIGH-DPI SCALING ISSUES

In some cases the graphical user interface (GUI) of the main window might be displayed incorrectly on systems with high-dpi scaling enabled. To solve those issues, close the program and do:

- Right-click on the program
- Select "Properties"
- Click the "Compatibility" tab
- Click "Change High DPI Settings"
- Check "Override high DPI scaling behavior"
- Set the drop-down selection to "Application"
- Click "OK" or "Apply"

Then restart the program.
